A Full Plate

My mother is still here recovering from her back surgery (doing well!), and now we've added my grandmother, who was released from the hospital this weekend after a bout with pneumonia, but is far too weak to be on her own in her apartment.

A full plate.

But life goes on, with high winds, power outages, good meals, and the occasional platter of cupcakes.

I know you must be in your element.

How lucky, your mother and grandmother.

At first, I thought the platter of cupcakes was your "full plate." That would be a very nice full plate. I'm sorry to hear about the hard things you're going through.

Prayers going out for ongoing healing for your mother and grandmother. How blessed they are to have you providing loving care as they recover in your lovely home!

I was thinking that your mother and grandmother must have passed on the great skills and thoughtfulness that you are now demonstrating in their care. They are deservedly reaping the benefits of their lessons and you too will enjoy that love and care from your future generations! Get well soon to the two mothers and I too will pray for their good health.:)
Mmmmmmm can almost taste those cakes.

The cupcakes are a necessity in times like that! We lost half our fence to the winds here in Texas a couple days ago--maybe I need to make some cupcakes here!

I hope both your mother and grandmother find their health restored soon!

You are in my prayers. I think they are blessed to be staying with you, and I know that you have a truly good attitude about it. God will give you the strength to handle whatever comes. The cupcakes look great!

As I was baking three, yes 3!, recipes of your Schoolhouse coffee cake this morning, I was praying for you. I read this post last night, but didn't have time to comment.

How wonderful a blessing you are to your mother and grandmother. You. Taking care of those who took care of you in the same home many years ago. (I think you mentioned that you grew up in the schoolhouse.)May the Lord give you the strength to greet the tasks at hand with love and kindness, giving you peace.

"This is the most beautiful place on earth. There are many such places. Every man, every woman, carries in heart and mind the image of the ideal place, the right place, the one true home, known or unknown, actual or visionary. A houseboat in Kashmir, a view down Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, a gray gothic farmhouse two stories high at the end of a red dog road in the Allegheny Mountains, a cabin on the shore of a blue lake in spruce and fir country, a greasy alley near the Hoboken waterfront, or even, possibly, for those of a less demanding sensibility, the world to be seen from a comfortable apartment high in the tender, velvety smog of Manhattan, Chicago, Paris, Tokyo, Rio or Rome - there's no limit to the human capacity for the homing sentiment." Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire (1968)

I thought of this verse and have been meaning to send it to you since you first ask for prayers for your mother. But God's timing is perfect, howbeit, my human frailties. Isaiah 43:2-3a (NIV)
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass throught the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I AM the LORD, your GOD, the holy one of Israel.... Now I know this verse today will be for all generations of His beloved.

"Those that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength".
"My grace is sufficient for thee."
I know, from personal experience, that is can be tiring looking after older/ill relatives. May the Lord strengthen you for this.

Anna;
God give you strength as you bless your mum and grandmother. I am sure they are both so happy to have your open arms to fall into in such a time as this.

I am praying for you!

I'm sorry for your Grandmother. And I pray your Mother is back on her feet in no time. End of life is a strange thing. My Father is in the end stages of Alzheimer's. I've been thinking a lot about my life and what I want it to look like when I'm gone. What legacy do I want to leave? How do I want to remembered?

Your Mother and Grandmother obviously have a legacy in you. I'm not sure if they taught you all you know about making a house a home, but I imagine they played a part in shaping that. I read your blog all the time, but rarely post. I enjoy the calm, beauty of your writings and pictures. I pray for you as you care for them.

BTW, can you email me or post the recipe for those cupcakes. They look wonderful. I tried to make cupcakes for my daughters birthday party and I wasn't pleased. Yours looking yummy and inviting!

God Bless!

To make the cupcakes, I used the recipe here http://pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2006/02/schoolhouse-chocolate-cake.html and poured it into muffin pans. Same frosting too. It's always good (unless you leave the sugar out accidentally but who would ever do that???)
